If you think of the top seminal albums of the 90’s you’d be hard pushed to dwindle them down to a top 5. Nirvana ‘Nevermind’, Primal Scream ‘Screamadelica’, Oasis ‘Definitely Maybe’, DJ Shadow ‘Endtroducing’ and Radiohead ‘OK Computer’? That’s a good start.
One that will without doubt be in most people’s top 10 will be ‘Screamadelica’ by Primal Scream. It’s a masterpiece of sound. The voice most prevalent on the album (disregarding Bobby of course) is a certain Manchester based session vocalist Denise Johnson.
Her CV reads like a who’s who of the Manchester music scene – she’s worked with New Order, Johnny Marr, A Certain Ratio to name just a few and now she’s brought together her own band called ‘Honestly Express Yourself’ and they’re playing Wrexham on Saturday night.
As part of ‘The Spectrum Saturday Social’ gigs, the line-up also boasts some of the best talent in the area. Lo-fi surf punkers Mowbird will be showcasing material from their two EPs ‘Excellent, OK’ and ‘Ilk’, Victorian Hardware will be playing their usual German inspired electronica, Mother of Six will be celebrating the release of their new single ‘Home’ and The Scene will be headlining the event plus special guests F.O.E.
The Wrexham Lager Club is the venue, with doors opening at 8pm and entry being £4.
