Is Polly the ‘Next Big Thing’?

Polly Mackey & the Pleasure Principle
Polly Mackey & the Pleasure Principle have been announced to appear at a new festival curated by HMV, the ‘Next Big Thing’ is an annual festival which aims to showcase and celebrate a broad range of new and exciting breakthrough artists from across the UK.
The inaugural ‘Next Big Thing’ will run in February across several venues across the capitol and Polly Mackey and the Pleasure Principle have been confirmed to play the Borderline with Plasticines and one more to be confirmed. Other artists confirmed for the dates include Hadouken!, Cate Le Bon, Slow Club, Jersey Budd and Two Door Cinema Club. So, as you can see, they are in very good company.
The good thing about this new idea is that its not a competition. There’s a large saturation of music competitions around the UK which promise record deals, studio time, mass marketing and nationwide recognition. Unfortunately mostly, they are a load of guff and a waste of time. The ‘Next Big Thing’ is a genuine festival which sole job is to champion new live music.
In other Polly related news, they have just this week finished recording their debut EP in Liverpool. It’s pencilled in for release in February on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon and all of the other digital outlets and also a limited edition vinyl. And also the other week Polly and the boys were sitting at number 1 on the Alternative chart and number 9 on the All Genres overall chart!
