Get work experience in the music industry!
LIPA (Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts) is offering an exciting work experience opportunity for the right candidate to help out with the Make It Break it Awards 2009. The MIBI awards is for songwriters between 14 and 19 years old and is a joint venture between LIPA and Yamaha in association with EMI and HMV.
The judging panel includes Chris Martin (Coldplay), Guy Moot (president EMI Publishing), Mark Radcliffe (Radio 2), Steve Levine (Producer), Melanie Armstrong (HMV Buyer), Dawn Joseph (songwriter and singer) and other high profile industry professionals.
They are looking for someone to assist in the organisation of both the song writing competition, academy and actual event, although they might split the responsibilities on two candidates if this seems to work better for all parties. The tasks will give hands-on experience in a variety of music industry work, and we will try to give the candidates the opportunity to concentrate on their main interest, although being positive to trying out new things too.
The successful candidate will be capable to work on all Microsoft Office programs and internet browsers, have great work ethics, experience or keen interest/education in the music industry and will be able to work independently and as part of a team. Other desired skills are: fluent writing skills and an excellent telephone manner. Web knowledge is desirable but not essential.
They are expecting a commitment of about 1-2 days a week, which is quite flexible. It would be great if you have your own computer, as only 1 day a week would be on location.
Responsibilities include:
• General admin activities
• Web promotion (Bulletin boards and Myspace, Facebook, Twitter etc)
• Liaising with A&Rs, music press and other music industry
• Event coordination
• Organisation of the “boot camp” academy week.
• Screening of applications (A&R work)
• Constructing and running a street team
The position is unpaid/pays expenses only, but will give the successful applicant an opportunity to work with young talented people on a high National level and to build invaluable contacts in the music industry.
