2011 is Wrexham’s Year of Culture!
2011 is a big year for Wrexham! Why? Well try over 300 cultural events throughout the year to transform Wrexham into the events hub of North Wales!
By raising the profile of the area, the project is expected to attract thousands of extra visitors, boost businesses and provide local people with the chance to enjoy some of the best cultural experiences in Wales. Wrexham is a place that has been known for its industrial and business achievements over more than two centuries, and this is a chance to highlight a very different aspect of life here. The Year of Culture will raise the profile of Wrexham, will demonstrate what a great place it is to live and work in, support the growing tourism industry, and support the growth of our creative industries.
Wrexham definitely has a lot of talent and we want to hear from anyone who would like to showcase that talent in the Year of Culture. We can’t guarantee that everyone will have a place in the programme, but our aim will be to include as many as possible.
A number of acts have already signed up to perform throughout the year including Russell Kane from ITV2s I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here NOW, The Three Welsh Tenors, The Fron Choir and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales to name but a few. Lots more headline acts are still to be confirmed! The showpiece event will be the National Eisteddfod – 30 July – 6 August 2011.
If you’d like more information or have any suggestions about the type of artists or events you’d like to see as part of the programme then please contact The Year of Culture Team on 01978 667320, www.yearofculture.co.uk or email wyoc@wrexham.gov.uk.
