The Scene are set to launch their debut EP with a special hometown gig this weekend at Wrexham’s Central Station on Friday 18th March...

The Scene are set to launch their debut EP with a special hometown gig this weekend at Wrexham’s Central Station on Friday 18th March. The date will form part of The Scene’s UK EP Launch tour.

The band’s new EP, entitled ‘Come Away’, was recorded at Giant Wafer Studios in Llandrindod Wells in Mid Wales.

The Scene front man Craig Spencer Griffiths said:

“We are thrilled to finally have a product that we are really happy with and Central Station seemed the perfect venue to launch it in. We had a great gig with The Charlatans there earlier in the month and just want to keep the momentum going. The gig will be the first in a series of shows around the UK including a London date with The Roseville Band at the end of the month. We are looking forward to promoting our e.p. and this date will be a great start to the tour”.

Support for the show will come from Juno and the Mook who have recently boosted their line up by adding Gavin Thwates (formerly of Nightfires) to the line up.

There will be 50 limited edition versions of the EP available exclusively at the gig, featuring a live version of the EP recorded earlier this month. Doors open at 9pm and admission is £3.00.

As they prepare for their state-side tour, Heal' were recently invited to meet the actual Mayor himself...

As they prepare for their state-side tour of sunny California, Heal the Last Stand were recently invited to meet the first citizen of Wrexham, the actual Mayor himself, Councillor Arwel Gwynn Jones and his loyal lady The Mayoress Mrs Mair Jones. What an honour.

The Heal family met with the outgoing Mayor to spread the word of their Everlasting Peace tour and to give him a copy of their debut album ‘Love is…’. Which, judging from the photo, was most welcomed.

The Mayor and the Mayoress wished them every luck and wanted to ensure that they, on behalf of Wrexham town, gave them a good send off to America.

To celebrate the release and their pending tour and their new EP ‘Peace Is The Word’, they are playing a special intimate seated gig on Saturday 22nd May at the Grove Park Theatre in Wrexham.

This is the first time in a long time that a live music gig has been booked for the theatre, it’s an intimate little setting and I definitely think more music should be arranged there – maybe more on the acoustic side of the spectrum rather than those full live electric bands. Sweet Judas.

Tickets priced at £6 and the doors are 7:30pm.

A limited edition of ‘Peace Is The Word’ will be available at the show, which contains five new tracks plus an a cappella version of their much loved song ‘Horizon (I Love You)’. From the 1st of June, ‘Peace Is the Word’ will also be available to download from iTunes.

Our very own Gallops have been called upon by a very unusual but exciting event to celebrate the life of the legendary former Joy Division singer Ian Curtis...

Gallops by Lense Eyes

Our Gallops have been handpicked to take part in an event called the ‘Un-Convention Factory’ on Saturday 8th May.

The event is part of a larger event called Unknown Pleasures, which is celebrating the life of the legend Ian Curtis (Joy Division singer, for those not in the know) on the 30th anniversary of his death. 8 bands, 60 music industry professionals and 300 participants will record, produce and release Iggy Pop’s ‘The Idiot’ album in one day inside a mill or ‘factory’ in Macclesfield.

The factory will include a recording studio, graphic design area, a digital space, and an area for debating issues around the production and release of the album, which will be available for free in shops and 25 000 free downloads available too.

The whole idea is to demystify the ‘music industry’, by breaking down the processes involved in producing a record, putting it into a production line and forming a record label for one day only.

It’s a massive and prestigious event to be involved with and Gallops are 1 of just 8 bands involved – the others include The Whip, I am Kloot and Reverend Soundsystem with more to be announced. Some big industry names are involved to, such as New Order’s Peter Hook and journalist John Robb.

I’m incredibly excited about this for Gallops and it’s another notch on their increasingly nobbly bed post. Its also great timing as they are currently on the market to labels for the release of their debut EP.

It’s been a long six months since Danny Gruff released anything new, but he’s not been hidden away. Instead he’s been constantly gigging, recording and writing to keep the momentum going off the back of his previous release ‘Last of the Big Time Small Town Lads’, which was hailed an immense success and sold out completely.

This second release takes a complete different slant compared to the first. Firstly, the new EP ‘Homegrown’ will feature 8 new recordings and an additional 3 live recordings. All these tracks have been written, recorded and produced by Danny himself which is the theme throughout the EP.

Danny explains:

“I took some comments which some people made about the first EP to help me make this EP better. Some people were saying how it sounded too produced and not at all like how my live show sounds. So this EP includes minimal overdubs, most of it is just one acoustic and one vocal. I feel like I’ve found my sound, all the tracks work really well next to each other.

There are a couple of new re-recordings of songs taken from his first EP, ‘Amsterdam’ and ‘Last of the big time small town lads’. Also on the release are new recordings of his live favourites, ‘Homegrown’, ‘Growing Up’ and ‘Time Wasted’. There is even a track from Danny’s days with his old band The Rigbys”.

Danny will be releasing ‘Homegrown’ on 30th January at The Swan in Pen Y Bryn, Wrexham. It is free entry, and the EP will cost £3.

Danny continues:

“I’ve decided to make the EP launch free entry, as people paid for the first one. It’s only fair to have a free gig to launch the second EP”.

Danny will also be playing with his band on February 8th at Central Station, Wrexham supporting ‘The King Blues’. Tickets are priced at £8.50. To get reduced ticket prices, contact Danny through his myspace.(www.myspace.com/dannygruff)

On Sunday 18th January Camera paid a visit to the Calon FM studios at Glyndwr University to guest on Steve Dwight’s ‘Calon Uncut’ show.

Matt, Steph and Tim from the band played acoustic versions of three new songs; ‘Can’t Explain’, ‘Crystal Ball’ and ‘Change Your Mind’, all from their forthcoming EP which is due out this year. They also played ‘All You, All Day’ acclaimed debut album ‘Ashes and Dim Light’.

I tuned into the and was pretty much blown away by absolutely everything.

Their new EP been recorded in Cardiff’s Music Box Studios over the past couple of months, following weeks of demo-ing and rehearsing in their Moonbase Alpha rehearsal room in Wrexham and currently the tracks are being mixed.

Welcome back Camera, we’ve missed you.
