Polly Mackey and her band The Pleasure Principle will be making their way across the big pond in March 2009 to play the legendary South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas – USA.

The SXSW is in it’s 23rd year and is known throughout the world as one of the most important music industry events on the calendar. International journalists, record companies, agents, talent scouts and radio pluggers flock to Texas to take part in industry seminar’s but more importantly to watch bands and artists playing across Austin’s bars and clubs.

Over 10,000 unsigned acts applied to perform last year and a lucky 1,000 were accepted. There won’t just be acts of the unsigned variety playing though – in the past they have had the more well known play; Kings of Leon, The Stooges, The Automatic, Bowling For Soup, Willy Mason, Amy Winehouse, Elvis Costello, Van Morrison, Cut Copy, REM and many many more.

If my memory serves me right, I think Polly Mackey is first Wrexham act ever to play the SXSW (maybe even the first to play USA?).

WHAT A WINNER.

We’ll bring you more details soon.

You can catch Polly Mackey & The Pleasure Principle live at their headline gig at The Picket in Liverpool on 11th December, with support from Trader, click here for more info.

  3. Excellent News!
I have a good contact for Polly. Sarah Sharp lives in Austin and is married to an old colleague of mine, Andy Sharp from Marchwiel. She is a well know singer / songwriter in Texas and I’m sure they will both want to meet Polly – http://www.sarahsharp.com / http://www.myspace.com/sarahsharp. Andy is aka Buffalo Speedway and plays in Sarah’s band so I’m not sure if that qualifies him as a Wrexham star in the USA or not! We met up with them in Austin a few years ago. They’ve also played in Central Station and the old WESS Club in Regent Street.

  4. I think I remember Sarah Sharp playing the WESS club! Seen some pictures somewhere. Good times.
